The Private Technological University of Santa Cruz (UTEPSA) consolidated a new step forward in its institutional policy with the creation of the University Wellness Department, a space dedicated to promoting mental health, inclusion, and integral human development within the university community.
This new entity emerges as an evolution of the Psychopedagogical Office, expanding its scope to comprehensively serve students, faculty, and administrative staff. The initiative responds to the university’s commitment to person-centered education, understanding that emotional, academic, and professional well-being are inseparable aspects.
The Department is an initiative through the Bravioo project, of which UTEPSA is a part, aimed at institutional strengthening in terms of quality, regulations, and well-being. Within this framework, its humanistic educational model is reinforced, prioritizing empathy, active listening, and support as the cornerstones of its management.
In this regard, Pura Zapata, Secretary General of Utepsa, emphasized that this new space seeks to anticipate the human needs of the community and offer solutions that promote more just and inclusive environments. Paola Castro, head of the department, indicated that they will work on prevention, counseling, and emotional support programs, with the goal of strengthening the sense of belonging and collective well-being.
With the creation of the University Well-being Department, Utepsa reaffirms its commitment to the comprehensive development of individuals and consolidates what it defines as “the human heart of the university,” a space where every member can feel supported, understood, and valued.
